This example is presented in the Excel workbook “blob_test.xlsm” in directory
“TESTSAT/COM/EX99_XL_BLOB” and corresponds approximately to the Ruby examples of
section IV.2.6. In this case, the extension available at “http://sqliteforexcel.codeplex.com/” is
used. The corresponding libraries and VBA module are distributed with the example, in
sub-directories. A few small modifications were made to the “SQLite for Excel” VBA code
to handle the blobs produced by FeResPost. (See the “SQLite3” module in the sources,
which corresponds to the module found at “http://sqliteforexcel.codeplex.com/”, with a few
modifications.)
Worksheet “MANIP” in the workbook contains two VBA macros that perform operations very similar to those of the Ruby example in section IV.2.6. These macros, along with a few others, are defined in module “FeResPost_Results”, which contains the code for the example.
More information on using FeResPost with VBA is given in Chapters VII.3, VII.4 and X.D.2. Note also that installing the “SQLite for Excel" extension in a sub-directory of the example directory is not necessarily a good idea. If you want to use the extension for other applications, it should be installed in a proper directory, and some directory names in the VBA source code will then need to be adjusted.
Note also that COM wrappers for SQLite are available and can be used with VBA. (See the following address “http://www.sqlite.org/cvstrac/wiki?p=SqliteWrappers” if you are interested.) Of course, databases other than SQLite can also be used (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.).
